what we do
you're part of this too
What your child practices with Soul Happy doesn't have to stay in the classroom. The more it shows up at home, the deeper its roots. This page is your guide to what they're learning, what to expect, and simple ways to keep the conversation going.

the stuff that sticks
foundations of mindfulness (mind/body/breath)
Students explore how their thoughts, physical sensations, and breathing patterns are completely interconnected, learning that they have the internal tools to actively shift their state of being.
emotional intelligence
We build emotional literacy by teaching students to recognize, name, and honor the full spectrum of human emotions without judgment.
self-awareness & regulation
Your child is equipped with practical, somatic regulation strategies to safely navigate intense feelings, de-escalate heavy emotions, and return to a state of balance. By observing their thoughts, habits, and physical stress cues, students develop a deeper understanding of themselves, fostering a compassionate inner voice and steady self-confidence.
community connection
Our curriculum places a beautiful emphasis on empathy, active listening, and peer co-regulation—learning how their individual calm contributes to a safe, respectful, and compassionate community.

what to expect
1
connection
Safe spaces are created through ongoing trust and connection. Every class starts by checking-in with ourselves and our peers to establish a baseline, energy pulse for the day. After our check-in we transition with a welcome song for our younger friends or heart beat counting for our older friends.

2
breathe
Every Soul Happy class is anchored by five intentional pillars. These core elements are woven into every session to help your child steady their nervous system, release stress, and establish a predictable, nurturing pathway to inner calm.
The breath is our most accessible tool for self-regulation. Your child learns the science of how purposeful breathing can shift their nervous system out of a stressed "fight-or-flight" response and guide them into a state of clear focus and calm. Each class practices a variety of different breathing techniques over the course of their programming.

3
movement
Children carry stress and emotions in their bodies. Through accessible, developmentally aligned yoga and somatic movement, we help students release stagnant energy, develop spatial awareness, and cultivate a healthy, respectful relationship with their bodies.

4
integration
Mindfulness is most powerful when it bridges into real life. During integration, we weave the SEL curriculum into movement and reflection. Students experience the lesson through play, co-creation, journaling, or supportive peer work—turning what they practiced on the mat into an actionable life skill.

5
relaxation
True rest is an essential, learned skill. We close our sessions with dedicated, stillness and restorative rest. This vital step allows the brain and body to deeply absorb the benefits of the practice, leaving students refreshed and ready for the day ahead.

frequently asked questions
what exactly is mindfulness for kids, and how does it work?
At Soul Happy, we see mindfulness as an essential life skill. By teaching kids to pause and check in with their inner world, it allows them to choose how they want to show up in the outer world. It’s not about sitting perfectly still or clearing the mind (because every mind is beautifully busy!). Instead, we teach kids how to safely explore the connection between their mind, body, and heart through playful movement, sensory awareness, and gentle breathing techniques. It’s a step-by-step map that guides them from high-energy bursts to moments of deep, restorative calm. As adults, we often ask children to “please listen, please focus, or our favorite, please calm down.” Listening, focus and the ability to calm down is a skill that has to be taught and practiced. Mindfulness teaches us how to do all of those things! But just like any skill, we need a safe space to learn and practice our skills.
my child has so much energy! can they really practice yoga and mindfulness?
Absolutely—in fact, they are our favorite kind of practitioners! Mindfulness isn't just about stillness; it's about authentic expression. We meet children exactly where they are. By channeling their vibrant energy into purposeful, physical movement first, we naturally guide their active nervous systems into a gentle, focused state of ease. Movement is the doorway to their quiet inner space.
what is SEL programming, and why is it built into your sessions?
SEL stands for Social-Emotional Learning, and it is the heart of everything we do. It’s the process where children learn to understand and manage their emotions, feel and show empathy for others, establish positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. We don't just teach physical poses; we thread emotional regulation, self-awareness, and compassionate communication directly into our activities. When kids learn how their physical bodies react to stress and how to use their breath to anchor themselves, they are learning how to actively practice social-emotional intelligence in real-time.
what does the data say about youth mental health right now?
It's no secret that our kids are carrying a heavy load. National data shows that youth stress, anxiety, and feelings of burnout are at an all-time high, often trickling down from the fast-paced, high-stress environments around them. When children are constantly in a "fight-or-flight" state, the brain's learning center essentially goes offline. That’s why proactive mental health tools aren't just an extra addition to their day—they are an absolute necessity for survival and success.
what are the benefits of introducing mindfulness to children early?
Introducing these tools early completely reshapes how a child’s nervous system navigates life. The data is clear: consistent mindfulness and embodied movement practices lead to massive shifts both in the classroom and at home.
